More than 25 dancing groups from all over Cyprus have joined Ayia Napa municipality’s effort to break three separate Guinness world records for the longest chain in Greek traditional ‘Kalamatianos’, Russian traditional ‘Kalinka’, and the world-famous ‘Syrtaki’ dances, mayor Yiannis Karousos said.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Karousos said that “this significant dancing event will be held on Sunday, September 28, along Makarios Avenue at the city centre at 5pm.”
“We call on all dance schools in Cyprus to join this effort and contact the municipality so that the necessary arrangements are made for this effort to succeed,” he said.
According to Karousos, the effort is well worth supporting as “it will be something beautiful and will help promote both Cyprus as a tourist destination, and Ayia Napa and the free Famagusta area.”
In order to help participants, the municipality has uploaded videos of each dance’s routines onto its website.
