Pink Friday in Girne

Pink bubbly popped across the country this week for breast cancer awareness as Tulips supporters staged non-stop events to raise cash for the Help Those with Cancer charity.

Tulips organiser Carole King said as the special month drew near to its conclusion with a ”Wear it Pink Day” on Friday: ”Sue Tilt and I have been to 25 different venues today, it´s fantastic. Huge, huge thanks to all who have supported us and who are continuing to support us next week.”

The charity sold out of its pink Believe in Life T-shirts on Friday as the day saw schools, bars, shops, restaurants, cafés and hairdressers pose in pink to highlight the need for breast cancer checks.

Cyprus Today published a pink edition of their otherwise blue weekly newspaper on Saturday with the text ”Going pink to support cancer charity”, Karen Aldred led a pink zumba class at the Black Olive Café, Girne´s Near East Bank staff wore the iconic pink ribbon, and Alsancak hairdresser Nülten Oral and her team were dressed in pink, as were lunchtime diners at the Wild Duck Café in Lapta and Girne´s Café George.

Pupils and teachers at Girne American University and The English School of Kyrenia joined in, with state schools to follow this week.

This weeks events include Catalköy´s Food Lodge Pink Fun Bowling on Wednesday, for which places can be reserved by phoning: 0533 839 8764, and a whirling dervishes show on Friday at Bellapais Abbey.
