My first impressions of North Cyprus

muhtarDuring the short period of time that I have lived here in North Cyprus, I have experienced that the people, especially the elderly, are very friendly and obliging.

When we were shopping for groceries one day at Muktar´s shop, we got a ride back to Aphrodite Beachfront Resort, and he promptly refused any compensation for it. Muktar is the same as “village chief” and they are elected.

I was very happy because it was hot and I was tired. It would have taken me about 30 minutes to walk to the store. Most people greet each other here, although we do not know each other. One day my sister and I walked to the garden center, and on the way back I wanted to take a taxi home, which was not easy. The cute girl who worked there offered to drive me home, though she was forced to leave the shop unattended. Neither she didn´t want compensation. It is heartwarming with such friendly people.
