Keeping the tradition – the annual Christmas dinner at Birgitta’s

So it was time again for the annual Christmas dinner at Birgitta’s, for all this steady current of Northerners. As usual, she had outdone herself (which is not the easiest task since it is always more than perfect).

Nothing was missing at the sumptuous table; brawn, ham, herrings of various types, cheeses, salmon with mustard, liver pate, egg halves with shrimps, boiled new potatoes (we’re in Cyprus), pork sausage, meatballs and roasted ribs with crispy rind. There was also homemade bread which was absolutely wonderful with pumpkin and sunflower seeds and of course crisp bread.

All these goodies were devoured during a glorious sunny day with great hilarity. Traditional schnapps songs were sung and a speech of thanks was presented to our wonderfully talented chef Birgitta. My favourite schnapps song was the Finnish one, which was presented as a long and complicated song, as we all sat waiting with raised glasses. The master of song got up, raised his glass and with an excellent Finnish accent he shouted NOW! That was the whole Finnish schnapps song which made us all break out in laughter.

As icing on the cake Birgitta served the traditional rice pudding, which was as good as always.

After this superb feast we were all satisfied, full and happy.

Together, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
