A tree to be planted for each newborn baby in south Nicosia

A patch of municipal green area in Makedonitissa, south Nicosia, will be available for new parents to plant a tree in celebration of their newborn, the Engomi municipality announced on Tuesday.

In a statement, the municipality said it adopted a suggestion by Environment Commissioner Ioanna Panayiotou, and announced having “designated a specific green area on Tomazou street (Tymvos Makedonitissas area), where new parents can plant a tree to celebrate the birth of their child, following consent by the Engomi municipality’s Green Service.”

“This ground-breaking action is part of the municipality’s campaign against climate change and enhancement of green in Engomi,” the statement said.

We hope that a similar arrangement can be made in north Nicosia as well!
