Yeroskipou municipality will organize a number of events in October and November as part of the job to highlight the seriousness of climate change. Some of them will take place in schools, but now the municipality has also decided to distribute 4,000 bags to residents to reduce the high use of plastic bags. The mayor said that 800,000 plastic bags are used per day in Cyprus.
They have contacted the shops around the municipality so they do not pack the goods in plastic bags. The mayor also said that they will even reduce taxes for businesses that do not use plastic bags.
