Remembrance Day will be marked on Wednesday when the Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services hold their next afternoon tea. The event at Alsancak’s Black Olive Café will feature a talk by Edward Barrett on The Highs and Lows of a Military Life, and will see sandwiches, cakes and tea and coffee served from 3pm.
The “112” charity’s next event will be another talk, this time by Cyprus Today columnist John Hughes-Wilson about The Strange Life and Stranger Death of Norma Jean Baker – aka Marilyn Monroe.
The address at the Mountain View Hotel in Karaoglanoglu, from 7.30pm on Novemer 20, will include a buffet supper. Brenda Plant, of the charity, urged people to pre-book places for both events.
“Anyone who has heard Mr Barrett speak before will know that he is a very informative and amusing speaker,” she said.
“Mr Hughes-Wilson is very well known for his talks. He provides facts rather than opinion, and finds information which many people don’t know, for them to then form their personal views on the topic.” She added: “We will be raising funds for our charity in order to return it as a good cause to our community.”
Wednesday’s tea costs 15TL and the November 20 buffet 40TL – to book call Mrs Plant on 0533 840 7834.
