This weekend give your taste buds a real treat with a four-course meal at the Powerhouse restaurant in south Nicosia to celebrate Austrian cuisine.
And who better to present this mouthwatering weekend than Austrian chef Christian Back?
On the set menu you will find smoked trout, pumpkin crème soup, veal, deer ragout, forest mushrooms and old Vienna style apple strudel. Or you could go for brunch, which includes sautéed potatoes and bacon with fried egg or a small breakfast plate with Austrian ham, cheese, butter, marmalade, honey and fruit, served with fresh pastries and home baked bread.
The man who will be preparing all these treats attended the hotel school in Gumden and Altmunster in Austria at the age of 15 before undertaking his first apprenticeship in Zell am See’s Grandhotel kitchen.
In 1989 he moved to Germany to work under renowned chef Juan Amador and Frank Oehler. A while down the line he followed his culinary dream to Stations in Australia, Italy and Portugal before returning to his native Austrian roots, where he teamed up with his old friend and mentor Frank Oehler to cook for the Restaurant.
In 2000 the Austrian chef moved to our island and began to lead the kitchens of the Zoo restaurant, Hilton Hotel, Hotel E, Larnaca Airport and the Adams Beach Hotel.
