Eliz named Britain’s player of the month

Turkish Cypriot teenage tennis star Eliz Maloney Yorgancı has been named as Britain’s junior player of the month after going unbeaten during her two singles tournaments in South Africa in
October.

The Cyprus-born player, who competes for Great Britain, was awarded the accolade by the British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) after dropping just one set in 10 matches as she clinched both the Curro Junior ITF Week 1 and Week 2 titles.

In both finals she overcame home player and number one seed Nicole Petchey.

Mother İlkay praised her daughter’s maturity and determination while training and competing away from Cyprus and friends and family, adding that Eliz was “aiming high”.

She also thanked those who had provided “moral and financial support”.
