For a sense of true Christmas spirit these holidays, that we are used to up in the north, make a visit to the Levant Restaurant in the cosy mountain village of Karmi above Kyrenia. The Canadian couple, Ken and Debbie, that owns the restaurant, has made it an annual tradition to decorate the room with every imaginable Christmas decoration, to create a warm atmosphere where Christmas stress can make space for what the festivity is really about; good food and socialising with loved one. Here you can sit back with a glass of steaming hot mulled wine (the best we’ve tasted on the island!) and listen to the sound of the crackling fire while you feel the Christmas spirit sneaking up even more.
The first Christmas decorations usually appear in early December, and then it just becomes more and more each day until Christmas Eve. And the collection of Christmas decorations seem to grow every year! Adjacent to the restaurant building Levant also has a cosy café, which has also received its dose of Christmas. Here you can enjoy good coffee (of course served in Christmas cups if desired) and freshly baked cakes. And since we are in Cyprus where the sun shines all year round, it is of course perfectly possible to sit outside on the cafe’s veranda and look out over Karmi’s charming streets.
