Berlin Philharmonic set for Cyprus

Berlin Philharmonic orchestra

A German orchestra which was voted the world’s second best by music critics in 2008 is to visit Cyprus in May for a Paphos 2017 European Capital of Culture concert conducted by former Vienna Philharmonic artistic director Mariss Jansons.

The Berlin Philharmonic orchestra performance at the mediaeval Paphos Castle Square on Monday, May 1 aims to ”promote the European ideal” during the year-long programme of local and international arts events.

The noon concert opens with the overture to the opera Oberon by Carl Maria von Weber, followed by his Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra, featuring clarinettist Andreas Otensamer, and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8 in G Major, opus 88. Standard tickets are priced at 50 euros, side seats at 30 euros and VIP seats at 70 euros and will soon be on sale online at  www.oldoutticketbox/berlinphilharmonic/?lang=en
