Spellbound

Breathtaking performances by 18 top circus performers are keeping audiences spellbound in Girne – and all for a good cause.

Spellbound The Belluci Circus of Italy

The Belluci Circus of Italy has set up a 1,200-seat big top opposite the Pia Bella Hotel after being brought to the TRNC by the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips) to help boost fundraising.

Shows on the site began last week and will continue until the circus moves to Gazimağusa for its final appearances during a country-wide tour that began last month in Lefkoşa. Clowns, jugglers, motorcycle stunts and acrobatics by performers from Egypt, Portugal and Italy are enthralling audiences, particularly children, with a fast-pace, two-hour show.

“The circus tent has been packed with all its 1,200 seats booked on numerous occasions,” Tulips coordinator Engin Savim told Cyprus Today. “Going to the circus is an excellent way entertain children and no animals are used in the shows. We first organised a circus around three years ago when we brought one over from Turkey. This year we noticed the Bellucci Circus was performing in South Cyprus and immediately approached them to perform in the North as well. We have had nothing but positive feedback from the public since the shows began in Lefkoşa in April and many people return to experience them again.

“The circus will make a huge contribution to our funds and help to save the lives of many cancer sufferers in the TRNC.”

Circus performance times are from 7.30pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Saturdays there are two shows, at 6.30pm and 9pm and Sundays at 2.30pm and 5pm. The circus is closed on Thursdays.

“Royal VIP” tickets are priced at 80TL for adults and 70TL for children and “Standard VIP” cost 60TL for adults and 50TL for children, while non-VIP seats are 40TL for adults and 25TL for children. For more information call (0392) 228 9807.
