Iconic Latin guitarist, singer and songwriter José Feliciano is to headline the 21st Famagusta International Festival of Art, Culture and Tourism this summer at a closing seaside concert in the Salamis ruins on Monday, July 19.
Eight Grammy and Grammy Legend award-winning Feliciano, now 71, shot to stardom with his 1968 hit version of The Doors’ classic Light My Fire and a controversial Latin Jazz version of the Star Spangled Banner at the World Series the same year.
Born blind in Puerto Rico, he and his family moved to New York when he was five. He first performed in public age nine and later quit school for a musical career.
He has released four albums in the last decade including The King, an Elvis tribute, and tributes to Frank Sinatra and Django Reinhardt.
A spokesman for organisers of Famagusta Municipality said the festival would run from July 3 to 19 and that a full programme would be released next month. Further details of festival events and ticket prices will be announced soon.
