The 10-strong team, calling themselves the Cyprus Coastline Hikers and including members of Turkish, Greek and Philippine origins, will set off on Saturday, June 10 with a UN escort and back-up vehicle as its members attempt to cover some 37kms each day, with nights spent camping or in hotels.
Organisers say the marathon journey is being undertaken “to prove how all Cypriots of different ethnicities can share opinions, knowledge and experiences by breaking stereotypes and borders and by engaging, connecting and exploring together”.
Also in the team’s sights is a Guiness World Record for completing the first-ever hike around the whole coastline of Cyprus.
The hike can be followed on www.facebook.com/coastlinehikers, where there will be live coverage.
