The first Kyrenia national dog show organized by the South Nicosia-based Cyprus Kennel Club will be held next month.

Dog owners have the opportunity to register their animals with the club, which is an official member of the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI), which allows them to participate in national and international competitions.

FCI judge Andreas Savva, Chris Zeniou and Chris Watson will form the judging panel at the event and prices are provided by the main sponsor Royal Canin.

In the first South-North collaboration of its kind, came the proposal to keep the show on the north by club official Hasan Behçet, who often took his dog to the races in the South.

His dog has won trophies in KAR exhibitions.

“I asked the officials from the Interior Ministry, and went so far as to ask the Secretary of State for permission,” said Behçet from Karaoglanoglu Hunting and Shooting Union, which is organizing the event with different age grouped classes. To claim the dogs must be registered with the Cyprus Kennel Club, which is done online and costs 15 €, he said, those who want to participate should register at least five days in advance. To do so call Mr Behçet on: 0533 864 6310

KARS event “Paws in The Park” takes place on Saturday April 26 in Girnes Bariş Park, from 10:00 with 10 classes, costing 5TL per dog per class and registration is from 30.9. KAR appeal for donations of baked goodies, such as pies, sausage rolls, pasties and cakes, for the show.

“All the goodies will be sold on the day for the benefit of the many cats and dogs in our care – and not for the benefit of our waistlines,” said a corps spokesman.
