North Cyprus will have its own ice skating rink, which is expected to open within two weeks. Construction of the 190 m2 large rink, which is located in Girne Municipality’s cultural centre, behind the city Bariş Park, is soon completed, and will create an “alternative” and “fun” way to exercise, said city officials.
The city’s mayor, Sümer Aygın said: “This will be the only skate hall operating in Northern Cyprus.”
“We have done this to promote an active lifestyle for our residents. There will be free admission for children the first two months, and we will probably be around 10TL entrance fee for adults. We hope to open the rink within two weeks. We will also have a skate teacher. ”
Mr. Aygın said that the plant is part of a wider project to build complex activity in villages around Girne, from sports and fitness centres to pool halls and Internet cafés.
