Air traffic has increased by 12% in the first four months of 2016 according to Communications Minister in South Cyprus, Marios Demetriades.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday following a cabinet meeting which had just granted Cobalt Air its technical operators’ license, Demetriades said, “This is the second year in succession where an increase has been observed”.
The minister said that the air transport would be bolstered by direct flights to Iran by mid-June. He also mentioned that Blue Air has brought a second plane to the island.
The problems that had been experienced by passengers at Paphos International Airport of late, meanwhile, “have been solved” with Demetraides stressing that the problem had been a delay in passport control.
Speaking on the importance of safety and security on the islands airport, he said that “negotiations between the government and the Hermes Group regarding the security of the airports is continuing”.
Demetriades concluded by saying that the government’s decisions regarding restructuring and reform as well as its open sky policy had brought about the congestion over Cyprus.
