A 2400 year old grave found in Soli, is one of the ten ancient kingdoms of Cyprus, which is not far from Nicosia. The area must have been built around 500 BC. These recent findings have astonished researchers; jewellery, weapons, pots and a gold crown are some of the items found, objects that show that the people who owned them were rich and had great power in the area.
Certain artefacts found may also be linked to other sites, such as Athens and Macedonia. It shows the connection between different geographical areas, probably through trade. The human remains found are from a man, woman, little girl and a woman and girl. Researchers will now try by DNA testing to ascertain their relationship to each other.
Some items are now available to view at the Museum of Archaeology and Nature, in Güzelyurt/Morphou.
