Akdeniz is a small village located on the North West coast of Cyprus and is famous for being the site of the Swedish Cyprus Expedition excavations in 1929, when they found a settlement from the Bronze Age, with two thousand clay figures that are thought to have been used as offerings.
Today people come to Akdeniz for the beaches. Caretta Beach is the perfect beach for those who want to get away from all the crowds. There is plenty of space for both sun worshipers and water sports enthusiasts. The place is very popular among surfers who find their way here for the West Coast waves. At Caretta Beach there is a nice restaurant and bar with magnificent sea views.
Akdeniz is located on the coastal road between Güzelyurt and Kyrenia and is easily reached by car. Please see the map below for directions.
