Birds of prey

Birds of prey have very good eyesight to locate prey, strong claws to hold food, and a strong curved beak for tearing flesh. These birds are at the top of the food chain and hunt generally vertebrates.

As predators, they are important for a healthy ecosystem and by protecting them also protects many other species.

Many birds of prey are poisoned and die, by hunting and ingestion of lead shot from shotgun or bullets left on the ground. Moreover the birds of prey run a high risk of secondary poisoning by eating organisms that have been shot but survived and killed or weakened by pesticides.
