CESV make-up course

There was ”gore” galore at a make-up course on simulating accident and disaster injuries held by the Civil Emergency Service Volunteers (CESV) in Girne.

The new training year got off to a great start for the CESV with a makeup course headed by Terry Carter. It was a refresher for some and a new experience for others, opening up a world of make believe. CESV like to make their training sessions as authentic as possible. With the aid of the stage makeup they can provide you with a variety of injuries ranging from a basic bruise or blister to a lost limb! As new recruit Gail Quelch said “I have seen such things on TV but never expected to be doing this for real.” Using basic ingredients from the kitchen and some cleverly applied makeup our members can “make up” some very realistic wounds which are definitely not for the faint hearted.

“We did the first aid course but the make-up fascinated me and I tend to continue. It´s important for realistic training,” Gail added.

The course was attended by about 10 people and headed by CESV founder Terry Carter, who was back on the island for an eight-week visit from the UK. More information on courses and the work of the CESV may be found at their website, www.cesvtrnc.com, or by phoning Claire Lamb on 0542 878 7111.

The CESV also held one day 1st aid training courses at the English School of Kyrenia (ESK).  These courses were held for teachers at the school who were impressed by the after school training provided by our members for the children.  Over a period of two days more than 20 of the teachers, many who are parents themselves, were taught the basics of 1st aid and what to do in an emergency situation. Skills which can be put to good use at work or at home.
