Christmas Day Swims

Carole and Sue have now let us have the amounts raised for Tulips from the 3 Christmas Day Swims which took place at Shayna Beach, Kervanseray and Iskele on Christmas Day.

Kervanseray Christmas Day Swim 2014 raised a whopping 5,453.50TL! Not bad for just 6 swimmers as the other swimmers were swimming for Hope4Pets.

They would like to say a big thank you to the Mayor of Girne for his support who arranged, this year, for the beach to be cleaned ready for the swim.

Certificates were given out and the photo below (2nd photo) from left to right includes: Steve Owen, Shelly Massey (organiser of this event), David Foulke, Duncan Leitch, Savas (Sh-Boom Bar who donated the brandy winter warmer), Jackie Pennington and Sarah Massey. Unfortunately Ken Massey was unable to attend but his daughter Sarah accepted his certificate on his behalf.

Shayna Beach swimmers all gathered on Tuesday 13 January, at Shayna Beach Restaurant, to present a cheque to the 3 charities they had chosen. These were Tulips, KAR and Karakum Special Needs School. Barbara Fursman who was a co-organiser with Annalise Friede of this year’s swim was very emotional when she revealed that the total they had raised was an amazing 13,080TL! What a fantastic result and no wonder she was overwhelmed. This meant that Tulips received a cheque for 4,360TL and for that amazing amount they are extremely grateful.

Barbara thanked Shayna Beach Management for all their efforts and contributions on the day and also Kim Betts for her fantastic work in writing articles, reports and generally promoting the event.

On behalf of Tulips Carole King presented 3 certificates in thanks of all their efforts and the money received.

Iskele Swim was attended by Tulips Chairperson Raziye Kocaismail and raised 1,310TL. Raziye was very grateful to all the swimmers and would also like to thank the Mayor and Belediye of Iskele for their help at this event.

In total all 3 swims raised an amazing 11,123.50TL for Tulips – staggering….
