North Cyprus President Dervis Eroglu, held a press conference about his recent meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York. 
The President, at the meeting accompanied by the chief negotiator for the Turkish Cypriots, Kudret Ozersay said: “We shared our views and opinions on the following steps in this process. We are pleased to see that even the Secretary-General supports gradually structuring a results-oriented process.” He noted that the atmosphere at the meeting, which lasted half an hour, was very productive, “the Secretary-General expressed personal involvement in the process.
The Secretary-General holds the Cyprus topic on top of the agenda, Eroglu pointed out that Ban closely follows the process and “have opinions to motivate both sides.”
“We shared our views with the Secretary-General regarding our plan to continue negotiations and reach a result in a prompt manner. Our desire is to see an end to this chronic problem with the help of both sides’ goodwill and positive approach. That’s all we want, “said Eroglu.
After a reporter reminded the president that he had pointed out the two sides’ major differences, said Eroglu, “Negotiations are held in order to bridge the differences. We will work together with Mr. Anastasiades to eliminate these differences. Of course time will show what will happen, but we expect this 50 years old problem to be solved.” President Eroglu said that if the program, which the Turkish Cypriots suggested during negotiations, is taken into account and there is a good will, it would be possible to reach a solution to the Cyprus problem this year.

A statement from the press office’s presidency says he will convey the Turkish Cypriot views and expectations regarding the Cyprus negotiations. Eroglu will also meet with “Head of the Council on Foreign Relations”, Dr. Richard Haass.
The president will return to Cyprus on Thursday morning.
