Until November 17 you have the opportunity to see artwork by award winning artist Edgar Chahine at the Centre of Visual Arts and Research in south Nicosia. The French artist, of Armenian parents, was born in 1874 in Vienna and was famous in the beginning of the last century. In his twenties he moved to the big city of Paris, where he found his inspiration in the city streets. His artwork shows well-dressed, wealthy Parisians mixed with the more simple life. Everything from beggars to the fashion conscious men and women is produced in the pictures, just like the city streets must have been like.
His art was very popular. He was awarded a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900, where the city celebrated the success of the 19th century in architecture and inventions. The same event was behind the Eiffel Tower’s genesis to the city. Chahine has won numerous other awards and his art has been exhibited in many museums and galleries worldwide.
The exhibition therefore takes place at the Centre of Visual Arts and Research in Nicosia until November 17th between the hours 9.30am-5pm. If you have any questions, please phone: + 357-22-300989.
