Residents of Northern Cyprus, which was eligible to vote in the Turkish presidential election, showed a very low turnout in Sunday’s elections. Only 11% of the electorate Turkish voters, living in northern Cyprus, voted.
According to the latest results from the 33 ballots the polls was 54.8% of the 10,843 valid votes for Erdoğan, 37.1% and 8.1% Ihsanoglu Selahattin Demirtas.
Of the 92,171 eligible voters in Northern Cyprus only 10,941 of them went to the polling stations.
The way the voting process was planned by YSK in countries outside of Turkey for Turkish citizens living abroad, was widely criticized as voters got to vote by making an appointment. This procedure raised concerns regarding the confidentiality of voting, especially for those places where a small number of voters could vote at any given time, which made it easier for officials to guess who they voted for.
