Foreign spouses can now each buy a property

Foreign husband and wives can now buy one property each in Northern Cyprus, under a new law adopted by the government.

The measure came into force at the discretion of the government and is part of a range of property-related measures, according to the ministers, aimed at making the life of the country “easier” for foreigners – which could even include scrapping the current requirement for homebuyers to need permission to Purchase (permit to buy).

Previously married couples were considered as a single entity according to the laws governing foreign property purchase, but the change now gives individual rights to each spouse to buy a plot of up to one donum (1,338 m2).
