A contemporary art exhibition by two Macedonian artists which premiered at the 56th Venice Biennale this year launches in Girne’s Art Rooms at The House on Thursday.
Artists Hristina Ivanoska and Yane Calovski question the importance of faith in human existence, the arts and in artists themselves by referencing an anonymous 12th century fresco in the church of St Jorgi in Kurbinovo and texts by Simone Weil, Luce Irigaray and Paul Thek.
We Are All in This Alone is curated by Başak Senova, who edited an accompanying book containing more conversations and drawings which will also be launched at the 8pm opening. The book was produced with the support of the Art Rooms and will be launched internationally in Berlin in January.
A representation of a golden chapel at the Venice event was titled The Nationless Pavilion which the artists said represented the “25th Nation” – some 51.5 million displaced people worldwide who could be considered to constitute a state.
The art project also includes a short film, Detail, by Mr Calovski and a hand-embroidered wall hanging, Untitled (The Artist is not a Civil Servant), by Ms Ivanoska.
The show will run from noon to 10pm, Wednesday to Sunday, through to January 4.
