How beautiful is St. Barnabas Monastery, where it peacefully stands in the meadow, just minutes away from the ancient city of Salamis. The story says that St. Barnabas monastery was built in memory of St. Barnabas, who was the son of a Jew family from Salamis. After going to Jerusalem to study, he converted to Christianity and returned to Cyprus to preach Christianity all over the island with Paulus.
Today, St. Barnabas Monastery is open to the public as a museum and visitors come from all over the world to enjoy the beautiful environment. The monastery consists of a church, courtyard, monastery room and chapel where St. Barnabas tomb is located. The church has been made into an icon museum and the convent building is a museum of archaeological finds. There is also a cafe and a souvenir shop in the monastery courtyard.
