Drink coffee brewed in sand at Kumda Kahve

Enjoy a cup of Turkish coffee – brewed in the traditional way! Inside the walls of Nicosia’s old town there is a cozy little cafe named Kumda Kahve. In Turkish, kumda means “in sand” and kahve “coffee”, and that’s exactly what you get served here, coffee brewed in the sand!

Some spoons of ground coffee beans are poured into brass bumps placed in hot sand. They are filled with water and stirred. After a few minutes, the hot sand makes the coffee start boiling, and then it’s ready to be served! The staff brings the coffee together with water, juice and some small Turkish Delights on a beautiful Ottoman plate.

The whole cafe has strong Ottoman features with antique Turkish details and furniture. You can sit indoors or out in the nice outdoor dining area. In addition to traditional Turkish coffee, Kumda Kahve has other coffee varieties, for example, you can have your coffee flavored with chocolate, coconut, and kola. For those hungry there is a lighter lunch and fig menu. You also serve Turkish breakfast, egg and vegetable menu and Turkish pancakes.
Kumda Kahve is the perfect stop while sightseeing in Nicosia!

Opening hours: Everyday between 10 am and 12 pm.
