Lefkara has been named one of the most beautiful villages by the Japanese Association of Travel Agents. In recent years, the Japanese travel agency has arranged many trips to Cyprus, when they discovered the village and gave it a place in the top 30 list of the beautiful villages in Europe, where even Golyazi in Turkey is included.
Lefkara, which means “white mountain”, is located in the southern part of the Troodos Mountains and is a village with cobblestone streets lined with quaint houses. It is well-known for its production of home-made ribbons and silver crafts. The statement after the nomination said that “Lefkara’s place on the list is completely justified, with its charm and unique architecture, local cuisine, important cultural and religious monuments and above all the fact that they have managed to maintain their local crafts”.
Pictures of Lefkara will be featured at the Expo Japan 2015 tourism exhibition, to be held in Tokyo this week. The reason for the project is to promote European destinations for Japanese.
