A cycling event – involving women touring the streets on decorated bicycles – took place in Lefkosa (north Nicosia) on Sunday to celebrate World Carfree Day and promote the use of bicycles in the Turkish Cypriot community.
Women cyclists took part in the ‘Glamour Ride – Dolled Up Women’s Bike Ride’ event which also takes place annually in ten other cities around the world, including London for the last three years.
Around 600 women glammed themselves up along with their bikes and toured the north of Nicosia.
Nibel Tektan, who organised the ride, called on all motorists to respect cyclists and pointed out that the roads “did not belong to cars only”.
