New electronic passport control system coming

The Ministry of Interior is preparing to install an Electronic Passport Control System at the borders in order to make the crossing easier and faster, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.

Minister of Interior, Teberrüken Ulucay, has stated that passport control will be faster and modernised by microchips placed in passports and identity cards. He said that towards the year’s end, the time of filling forms at border crossings will come to an end.

To benefit from the new system, you will have to own a chipped passport or an Identity card.

Ulucay has stated that, in conjunction with the police, 104 optic readers have been obtained.

“The processes to install the optic electronic passport reader devices at ports and borders have been started by the Police Department and the Communication and Computing Directorate,” he said.
