North Cyprus, a holiday destination for you? part 2

I am often asked the question, which season here is the best. Late October to middle of March is my answer, because then you can for example go hiking in the mountains, take trips and head into the capital. The milder weather allows you to be more active. The temperature is the next question. From October to December it is about 25-28 degrees during the day but in the evening and nighttime it can drop to about 15 degrees. The rain usually comes in late December to February, but it is almost always short showers.

We have a rich wildlife with turtles who come up and lay their eggs, and wild donkeys out on the Karpaz peninsula. If you go on a boat excursion, you might be lucky to see the occasional dolphin and possibly also some turtles.

The Mediterranean water is clean and crystal clear and very salty, which is good for the health, both for body and soul.

We have three castles located nicely and strategic placed on our beautiful Five finger Mountain range; St. Hilarion, Buffavento and Kantara.

We’ve had the Swedes (although the Vikings have visited the island) who have done extensive Archaeological excavations around the island.

The food I must not forget to mention. Fresh, tasty vegetables and fruits depending on what season it is, free-range chickens, fish that come directly from the local fishermen, lamb and meat from our local farmers.

If you want to see the authentic North Cyprus, you should rent a car and drive to the east but instead of taking the “new” high road, turn off on the small road (a very narrow and ill paved road) and go east .

You will arrive at Kaplica hotel. Stop here for a swim and a lovely homemade lunch. The owner is a fisherman so if you like fish, take the opportunity. If you look up the mountain, you can see the  Kantara castle and if you want to experience a fantastic view, you can drive up the winding road to the castle.

After you have visited the castle, you can take the road down the back of the mountain towards Bogaz.

Here you will pass through villages were time has stood still. Cairova, a small village on the side of the main road, is a sleepy village with a few houses, two Barbers and a small “hole in the wall” -Café, but it’s oh so nice and welcoming.

Feel free to stay for a cup of coffee whether it is Turkish coffee (do not forget that you have to talk about how you want your coffee, no sugar, a little sugar, medium sugar or much, much sugar) or if you want instant coffee, water or soda .

Below this village lies Karpaz olive factory which you can also stop by. Olive harvest will not start until the end of October, but here you can taste and buy their homemade olive oil.

Or you can just rest and relax on the beach. If you come in spring or autumn you can walk in the mountains.

In North Cyprus you can have the most stress-free and relaxing holiday.
