Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces donate land for cycle and walking path

A cycling and walking path is to be created along a 1.6km stretch on the eastern fringe of Karaoğlanoğlu, with the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces donating land for it. An agreement to allow work to begin on the scheme has been signed by Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü, who requested the land for the project, and Tuncay Altuğ of the peace forces, said a municipal statement on Tuesday.

The path – which will be 5.5 metres wide, with three metres of that reserved for pedestrians – will link up with the end of an existing cycle lane from near Girne’s Jasmine Court Hotel and follow the route of a fuel pipe running between Snake Island and the Girne American University roundabout on the Girne bypass.

A tender for the first phase of the construction will be announced in April.
