Permablitz for fun

On Sunday there is the possibility to learn about sustainability, while one can enjoy a fun day with the family. It is Permablitz Fun Day which takes place outdoors in Evrychou, south of Güzelyurt, a perfect environment what for the group Permablitz stands for – the care of the environment. The group was formed a year ago – the event will be a celebration of this – and accounts for permaculture as a means of sustainable cultivation. A sustainable society with a better environment and health trend is an important part of the work.

“It’s going to be a great family day out!” said Katerina Constantinou, one of the organizers, to the Cyprus-mail. Children can learn about bee life, paint and participate in craft production. “There will also be several short talks during the day,” she continues. “There’s a ten-minute introduction to permablitzing, including what we’ve done in the past and why it’s important, and how you can get involved and encourage others.” There will also be an opportunity to buy organic products and handicrafts, and very good food and drink available for sale for those who get hungry.

Over the last year Blitzes have been held in schools and community centres, on private land and in educational centres, and the burgeoning local movement has worked on all sorts of projects that have made a huge difference to our environment: creating gardens, planting fruit trees, regenerating bushland, water management design… the list is endless!

Permablitz Fun Day takes place at Atsas Organic Farm in Evrychou, Sunday, November 15 between 10am-5pm. The event is free.
