The painter Konstantinos Ptochopoulos is now presenting his fourth solo exhibition, entitled Presence and Transparency, at the Apocalyse Gallery on the south side of Nicosia. The exhibition opened last night and will run until February 4.
This latest painting collection revolves around the theme of the female form. Ptochopoulos chose to place his models at different locations at different times of day so he could use different conditions and approach the subject at different angles.
The main locations chosen are the beach, in water and some rocky landscapes. These specific locations and models were very carefully selected for the artist to highlight work of particular interest to the observer.
Some may find that these works reflect a romantic sense, a sensitive side or a melancholy essence as the models sometimes seem to be alone in a place empty of other people.
Ptochopoulos, who is from Larnaca, chose to paint expressions which bring across the essence of what it is to be present, either when you are alone or with others, and ones which may be transparent to allow those looking to have a small glimpse of what the figure on canvas is feeling at that specific moment.
The paintings on display seem to be created from above, therefore creating the idea of the seer as wanting to have a rounded view of his subject.
With that said, Ptochopoulos has managed to convey a sense of tranquility in his work.
Ptochopoulos studied at the Fine Arts School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and comes from an artistic family.
