Ryanair will submit its business package proposal for the ailing Cyprus Airways in time for the deadline bid on Friday.
Chief Marketing officer, Kenny Jacobs, speaking on BBC Radio 5 live said that Ryanair had held “a very positive meeting” with the [South] Cyprus government last week. Jacobs said that the eastern Mediterranean was “a really fast-growing area” for travel.
The South Cyprus authorities say they expect to get around 15 various proposals for the airline.
Ryanair owner, Michael O’Leary, who was in Nicosia on Friday said that he believed his company could increase Cyprus Airways annual passenger numbers from their current level of 600,000 to 3 million.
O’Leary also met with the Communications Minister, Marios Demetriades, who said that Ryanair has submitted to the Government a proposal which was separate from the ongoing process aimed at finding a strategic investor.
Demetriades said the South’s Government will examine Ryanair’s proposal to see whether or not it meets its expectations.
It is likely that the name of the new owner of Cyprus Airline will be announced at the beginning of October.
