Seals spotted off northern shores

Seals have made a rare appearance close to the TRNC shoreline at Yenierenköy harbour, they were last spotted two years ago. Mediterranean seals are a rare and endangered species so excitement spread and people flocked to the foreshore and nearby beaches in the hope of catching a glimpse of the visitors last Friday.

The creatures are occasionally seen by fishermen in the open sea but it is a rare event for them to come so close to land. Former Yenierenköy mayor Mesut Yikici managed to photograph the seals, saying he felt exhilarated by the experience of seeing them.
