At CULt, it is not only the name that is different; the Limassol event venue and social club sees itself as a ‘Club for Friends of Art and Design’ and a place that creates stories and is open to new things, explains owner Georgios Nikolaou.
The interior designer had recently moved the showroom for his designs and wallpaper on St. Andrew’s Street to a bigger space and wanted to create something new for the Limassol art scene at the centrally located spot.
The light and airy upstairs space used to be Nikolaou’s office and overlooks St. Andrew’s Street. It even features a glimpse of sea view through its large, glass front walls. It has been turned into a venue space, while the former showroom downstairs is now a stylish small bar for its members. Both rooms are furnished with eye-catching pieces of furniture designed by Nikolaou himself and walls decorated with art by local artists: everything can be purchased.
Nikolaou’s wife Olivera creates unique home decor from wood and has added her artistic touch. The couple may well be able to lay claim to running the most originally furnished place in town.
“The whole point is to bring more art into people’s lives — the art of living,” says Olivera. “The community’s feedback has been amazing. The many different nationalities we attract all feel equally at home here. We want CULt to be a melting pot and a relaxing, affordable gathering place for all. We have so many ideas, and are slowly going to introduce them, without scaring anyone.”
Book presentations, talks, workshops, charity events… all are in the planning. Whoever has something to say, a positive story to tell, is welcome to use the event venue free of charge.
