On Sunday the big strawberry festival took place in Yesilirmak, with visitors from all over the island coming to buy the red summer delights. On the strawberry fields people were equipped with both large and small buckets, ready to be filled to the brim to take home. It was also possible to buy pre-picked buckets from the stalls that lined the road. There is no doubt that this was the highlight of the year for the small village of Yesilirmak, on the West Coast.
The streets were filled with people and at the festival site, a little further away, many gathered to have lunch, listen to live music performances from the stage, look at the photo exhibition, shop for locally grown products from the area and later in the evening, the area would be the location for the annual “Miss Strawberry” contest.
There was a hive of activity on the strawberry fields, with the beautiful mountain range in the background.
The strawberry Festival is a celebration for the whole family.
Strawberry pickers of all ages.
When things got tough, you could always take a break from picking.
