The final evening at the five-day Olive Festival in Zeytinlik offered lots of activities and entertainment. On stage the band Blue Tears played old rock classics and we were also treated to traditional Cypriot folk dancing.
Olive season begins in September and continues right through until March. In the first months they harvest green olives and at the beginning of spring people pick them when they have become black. We are also at the end of the season for peaches, apples and grapes, which is noticeable among the market stalls. A nice man says that all the olives and fruits he has for sale tonight he picked early this morning at home on his farm.
The olives on the market have been brought from Bafra, Güzelyurt and Trodos. One litre of oil costs between 20 and 25 TL depending on the grade.
