Two fruit festivals this weekend

Lefke´s fifth Date Festival and the third Doğanköy Hawthorn Festival both take place this weekend. The Doğanköy event, which aims to inform people about the “alıç” plant which grows prolifically around the village, started at 2pm and there will be concerts and folk and modern dance shows throughout the weekend.

Stalls will be open from 11am till 7pm selling traditional Cypriot handicrafts, ceramics, gifts, refreshments and medlar jams.

Lefke activities will centre on the town´s indoor market, between 10am and 8pm today and tomorrow. Activities to promote the areas main produce, oranges and walnuts, will include folk dances, music performances and competitions for the best home-made jam.
