Volunteers Needed for hatching Turtles

Are you keen, sane and in shape? Then you have the chance to enrol in the Alagadi Beach Turtle project happening now during August and September.

Turtle nests are now hatching almost every day with excavations in the afternoons and released into the sea late at night. If you want to go there and just take a look you can call Alagadi base on 0533 872 5350 and find out information about the times.

Applicants are expected to be able to walk 20 km, day or night, able to work well in teams and be prepared to cook and clean. Experienced 4 wheel drive drivers are especially welcome to apply.

Duties also include helping with maintenance and to prepare the base for the winter at the end of September.

Tasks in research and conservation include night surveillance of nests, hatching monitoring and excavation in the daytime, weigh groups of the newly hatched chicks and take genetic samples, and assist in Alagadis information centre or tourist group visits.

Application forms are available at www.cyprusturtles.org/volunteering which will then be emailed to tillrtes201@exeter.ac.uk.
