Young film maker at the Golden Island Film Festival

The first edition of Golden Island International Film Festival kicked off with a short film competition on Friday. We met 19-year-old director Tofic Rzayev before showing his movie “Milk and Coffee” at Cineplex Lemar in Karaoglanoglu. Tofic has both written the script and directed the film.

This is his eighth short film, but it’s the first time he competes. He comes from Azerbaijan but currently lives in Nicosia where he is studying international relations at University.

What is the movie about?

-A Woman walking home from work late one night through town. She takes a shortcut and on the way she meets a mysterious stranger, and then handed unexpected things.

What is your education?

I’m self-taught since 8 years back and I have always liked movies.

What are your plans for the future?

I definitely want to make a feature film, but first there will be some short films to which I intend to send to the Sundance Festival and Raindance Festival and perhaps to Tribeca…

17 short films competed on Friday for a price of 2000 €. The award ceremony takes place on 12 November.

All contestants have no ties to Cyprus but come from different parts of the world.
